Four Earn WIAC Honors; Massa Named Position Player of the Year; Knoll Named Newcomer of the Year

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team earned WIAC Postseason recognition on Tuesday, with Anthony Massa being voted the conference's Position Player of the Year and Brayden Knoll being voted Newcomer of the Year. Carver Kamentz picked up Honorable Mention honors while Jacob Melendrez was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Anthony Massa | All-WIAC | So. | 3B
Massa became just the second Pioneer in program history to collect the Position Player of the Year honor, joining Jonathan Kelso (2021). Massa leads the WIAC with a .799 slugging percentage, 1.304 OPS, 71 hits, 58 RBI and 15 home runs, while ranking second with a .433 batting average, third with 54 runs scored and fourth with a .505 on-base percentage. The sophomore had a 19-game hitting streak to start the season and produced a season-high four hits against Illinois College on March 20 and Edgewood University (Wis.) on May 4. Massa rewrote UW-Platteville's single-season record book in the process, breaking records in hits, home runs, total bases, runs batted in, and slugging percentage.

Brayden Knoll | Honorable Mention | Fr. | CF
Knoll is the first Pioneer in school history to receive the Newcomer of the Year honor. He is tied for fourth in the WIAC with 10 home runs, seventh with a .619 slugging percentage, eighth with a .361 batting average and 1.033 OPS, and tied for eighth with 56 hits. The freshman batted 38 runs in and recorded 96 total bases while starting in 39 games.

Carver Kamentz | Honorable Mention | Fr. | RHP
Kamentz emerged as one of the Pioneers best pitchers over the course of the season with an 4.20 ERA across 40.2 innings. The freshman was primarily a relief pitcher, but made a pair of starts, including pitching six innings in the 16-2 victory over UW-Eau Claire. He paced the conference with three saves on the season and his ERA is the 10th-best mark in the WIAC. Kamentz finished the year with two wins and losses and struck out 37 batters.

Jacob Melendrez | All-Sportsmanship | Sr. | RHP
Melendrez earned All-Sportsmanship Team honors for the first time in his career. The senior made one appearance this season when the Pioneers hosted UW-La Crosse.
