PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Night one of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invite on Friday featured 18 total heats of 5k races along with the hammer throw. Several Pioneers track and field athletes recorded personal bests in the races.
Men's Highlights
Senior
Caden Schneider recorded a new personal-best in the 5k races, finishing in 14:11.42 to place 10th out of 343 runners. Schneider, who already held the second fastest 5k time in school history, slightly improved upon that time.
Junior
Zachary Sporaa placed 34th overall by running a 14:31.00, while junior
Paul Pfeifer took 46th with a time of 14:37.88.
Sophomore
Nicholas Elliott and senior
McKade Jelinek finished back-to-back in the hammer throw. Elliott placed 15th overall among 55 finishers with a best attempt of 48.37m, while Jelinek was right behind at 48.14m.
In the same event, junior
Cohen Pfohl (47.21m) and sophomore Nick Nuno (47.13m) also finished in consecutive spots, led by Pfohl's 21st-place finish.
Women's Highlights
Senior
Megan Hageman was the Pioneers' top finisher among the 5k races, placing 74th overall in the field of 197 runners. She ran a time of 18:02.86, setting a new personal-best in the process.
Senior
Avery Brown was next, also posting a new PR with a time of 18:25.39 to finish 98th overall.
In the hammer throw, senior
Samantha Klann took 19th out of 58 competitors by reaching a best mark of 43.27m. Junior
Laura Weaver also finished in the top half by taking 23
rd with a throw of 42.23m.

The invite resumes tomorrow at 11 a.m. with several field events. Running events are slated to begin at noon.
