DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams sent select athletes to the Drake Relays on Friday, with several posting strong results from Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior
Izzy Peterson broke a school record for the third consecutive week.
Men's Highlights
In the discus, senior
McKade Jelinek placed eighth overall out of 19 competitors with his best throw of 51.89m coming on his fourth attempt. That mark is a season-best for Jelinek and moves him a couple spots higher on the NCAA DIII performance list.
The 4x400m relay team of
Mason Augustynowicz,
Caleb Kitelinger,
Andrew Zimmerman, and
James Ketterer ran a strong time of 3:13.81 to finish 10th overall out of 25 teams in the event. That time is the best season for the Pioneers, and is good for fifth fastest on the program top 10 list.
Senior
James Ketterer also competed in the triple jump earlier in the day, where he placed 16th overall by reaching 13.16m on his first jump.
Junior
Zachary Sporaa wrapped up the day with the 10k race, where he finished fifth overall with a personal-best time of 30:15.48. That time shaved off over 16 seconds from his previous best in the event, which came last May at the WIAC Outdoor Championships.
Women's Highlights
The Pioneers' 4x100m relay team of
Haley Stannard,
Izzy Peterson,
Rylee Steffen, and
Elianna Dalamangas qualified for tomorrow's finals in the event after running a time of 47.32 to finish eighth in the preliminaries. That time is UW-Platteville's top time in the event his season and sends the quartet to the finals at 4:20 p.m. tomorrow.
Later in the day, Peterson advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100m after breaking her own school record in the event for the second time this season. The senior ran a 11.68 in the prelims to finish fifth, resetting her previous top mark of 11.77 from two weeks ago. Peterson will run in the finals at 1:05 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
