Six Pioneers To Compete At NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams will send six student-athletes to the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. Competition will take place on Friday and Saturday inside the Birmingham Crossplex.

Representing the women's team will be Izzy Peterson (60m, 200m), Hailey Campbell (high jump), Samantha Klann (shot put), and Laura Weaver (weight throw), while Zachary Sporaa (3000m) and Owen Orioles (pole vault) will compete for the men.

Peterson, who holds the UW-Platteville school record in both the 60m and 200m, makes her third consecutive championships appearance after earning indoor and outdoor All-American honors in the 200m last season. The senior enters this week's championship holding the top DIII time in the 60m (7.46), which came in the prelims of the WIAC Championships two weeks ago. Peterson also has the second-best seed time in the 200m, with her school record of 24.25 at the Mark Schuck Open coming in late January. The women's 60m prelims will take place on Friday at 2 p.m., with the 200m prelims later in the day at 4:15 p.m. The finals in those events occur on Saturday at 10:55 a.m. (60m) and 5:15 (200m).

Campbell secured her spot in the NCAA championships by matching her school record height of 1.71m (5' 7.25") to win the high jump at the WIAC Championships. That mark is currently tied for sixth best in DIII. The junior competed at the indoor championships a year ago and earned All-American honors with a fourth-place finish. The women's high jump will take place on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Klann qualified for her first NCAA championships in the shot put with her best mark of 13.58m (44' 6.75") earning her a second-place finish at the conference championships. That throw moved her up to fourth on the UW-Platteville top 10 list and placed her 20th on the national meet list. Klann will compete in Saturday's shot put event starting at 2 p.m.

Weaver broke the school record in the weight throw to earn her trip to the championships. The junior reached 17.30m (56' 9.25") at the Solomon Butler Classic hosted by Dubuque to finish second in the event on February 20. Weaver makes her first NCAA championships appearance on Friday at 3 p.m.

Sporaa posted a qualifying time of 8:12.16 in the 3000m to punch his ticket to the national meet this weekend. That is the second fastest time in the event in Pioneers program history, just narrowly behind the record of 8:12.06. Sporaa makes his first appearance at the track and field national championships after running in the cross country championships this past fall. He will compete at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Orioles will move on to the national championships after posting his qualifying mark in the pole vault at the UW-La Crosse last chance meet this past weekend. The freshman reached a height of 4.95m (16' 2.75") to win the event, with that mark good enough to tie him for second on the UW-Platteville all-time list. Orioles will compete on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
