BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior
Izzy Peterson was crowned a national champion, while junior
Hailey Campbell earned All-American honors for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams on Saturday of the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships inside the Birmingham Crossplex in Alabama.
Peterson opened her day by collecting All-American recognition in the 60m by running a 7.55 in the finals to finish third place. The senior followed that up by winning the 200m finals, with a NCAA Division III record time of 23.78. Peterson became the first UW-Platteville women's indoor track and field athlete since Amber Williams in 2016 to be named national champion and is the first since Jessica Scott in 2008 to collect a national title in a running event. Her time broke the previous indoor record of 23.90 held by Wadeline Jonathas back in 2018 also at the Birmingham Crossplex.
Campbell earned her second consecutive indoor All-American selection in the high jump on Saturday by clearing the 1.70m (5' 7") bar. The junior has qualified for the national meet three times in her career (two indoor and one outdoor).
Behind Peterson and Campbell, the Pioneers women's track and field team totaled 20 points at the championships, which was good enough for ninth place.
Senior
Samantha Klann placed 17th overall in the shot put, reaching her top mark of 12.77m (41' 10.75") on her third and final attempt. Klann, making her first NCAA National Championships appearance holds the fourth-best mark in the shot put in UW-Platteville program history.
Junior
Zachary Sporaa concluded the championships by finishing 14th overall in the 3000m run. He posted a time of 8:23.35 with a steady performance in his track and field championships debut.
With the conclusion of the indoor season, the Pioneers will have two weeks off before beginning the outdoor campaign at home with the Pioneer Triangular on Friday, March 27.
