PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Senior
Melissa Dietz of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America First Team it was announced on Wednesday.
It is the second straight NFCA All-America First Team selection for the third baseman and third career recognition after earning Third Team honors her freshman year. The three-time WIAC Position Player of the Year and NFCA First Team All-Region selection put together a fantastic season, leading the WIAC with a .532 batting average, .910 slugging percentage, .603 on-base percentage, 1.513 OPS and nine home runs, while ranking second with 59 hits, third with 39 RBI, and tied for third with 13 doubles. Her .532 batting average (59-for-111) is the top mark in a single season in conference archives.
Dietz played in and started 35 games for the Pioneers this season and recorded at least one hit in 30 contests, including 20 multi-hit games. Dietz connected on nine home runs, one being the go-ahead run against UW-Whitewater to advance to the WIAC Tournament Championship game for the second consecutive year. Dietz finished with 101 total bases on the season and scored 24 runs for the Pioneers while striking out just eight times and drawing 19 walks.
One of just two from the WIAC to be named an All-American this season, Dietz was joined by UW-Oshkosh's Kiran Sanford who earned Third Team honors.
