PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – For the first time in program history, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team will compete in the NCAA DIII Championships after earning an at-large bid on Monday afternoon. The Pioneers will face Coe in the opening round on Friday, March 6 with Bethel serving as the host.
UW-Platteville and Coe will begin the madness at 5:15 p.m. inside the Robertson Center in Arden Hills, Minnesota before Bethel battles Millsaps at 7:45 p.m. to conclude the first round. The winners advance to Saturday's second round contest at 7:45 p.m.
The Pioneers advance to the championships behind an 18-8 record that included several wins over Top 25 opponents, including a 47-43 win at No. 3 UW-Oshkosh on February 4. The Pioneers spent several weeks inside the D3hoops.com Top 25 and are currently 25th in the poll.
Coe earned the automatic qualifier out of the A-R-C after beating Wartburg 61-50 in the conference tournament championship game. The Kohawks hold a 21-6 overall record on the season.
UW-Platteville is one of five teams from the WIAC to advance to the NCAA DIII Championships. UW-Oshkosh hosts Webster, while UW-Whitewater welcomes in Transylvania. WIAC Tournament winning UW-La Crosse travels to Carroll to face LaGrange in the opening round, with UW-River Falls taking on Ripon at Concordia Moorhead.
