PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Five members of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team took home WIAC Postseason honors on Friday afternoon. Junior
Lexi Ward was named Defensive Player of the Year and was joined on the First Team by juniors
Sarah Liljestrand and
Jess Morawski. Freshman
Raven Rogers was tabbed Honorable Mention while sophomore
Angelina Labrague earned a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Lexi Ward (Defensive Player of the Year & First Team)
Ward headlines a stout backline, one that ranks second in the WIAC in goals against per game at 0.94. The junior is the only player on the Pioneers to start all 18 games this season, and her 1525 minutes played is by far the most on the team. Ward leads a defense that allows just 5.3 shots on goal per game, including 4.9 in conference contests. The Eldridge, Iowa native scored a goal for the third consecutive season, as she found the back of the net in the UW-Platteville's 4-2 win over Augustana.
Sarah Liljestrand (First Team)
Liljestrand has emerged as one of UW-Platteville's top scoring threats in a breakout season. The junior leads the team with five goals while playing in all 18 games and starting 10. Liljestrand has been efficient with her opportunities this season, converting her five scores on eight shots on goal. The Lombard, Illinois native paces the Pioneers with three game-winning goals, including the lone tallies in 1-0 wins over Dubuque and UW-River Falls.
Jess Morawski (First Team)
After collecting All-WIAC honors in 2024, Morawski earns her second straight First Team selection. The junior is tied with Liljestrand for the team lead in points (11) with four goals and three assists on the season. Morawski recorded three of her goals in conference play, including the game-winner against UW-Whitewater and tying score in a draw with UW-La Crosse. The forward leads the Pioneers in shots (30) and shots on goal (19) while converting both of her penalty kick attempts.
Raven Rogers (Honorable Mention)
Rogers earns WIAC Honorable Mention honors as a freshman after seeing her role grow as the season progressed. The midfielder has played in 17 games and made nine starts while adding two goals and a team-high four assists. Rogers was credited with her first career assist in the season-opening win over Augsburg and dished out both assists in a 2-0 win at Simpson. The Lockport, Illinois native ranks fourth on the team in shots (16) and is tied for third in shots on goal (8).
Angelina Labrague (All-Sportsmanship)
Labrague was named to the All-Sportsmanship team in her first season with the Pioneers. The sophomore has appeared in 14 games and made five starts on the UW-Platteville back line. Labrague has tallied one assist on the season, which came in a 1-0 win over Dubuque on October 1.
