PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (8-5-5, 2-1-4 WIAC) battled UW-Eau Claire (3-11-5, 1-4-2 WIAC) to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night in the final game of the regular season from Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
With the draw, the Pioneers secured the second seed in the upcoming WIAC Tournament. UW-Platteville finished in a four-way tie with UW-River Falls, UW-Whitewater, and UW-Stevens Point, but clinched the second spot via tiebreakers.
Neither the Pioneers nor Blugolds found much offensive opportunities in the first half on Saturday, with the two teams tallying two shots apiece. UW-Platteville had the lone shot on goal in the half, but junior
Jess Morawski's attempt was saved.
The Pioneers turned up the pressure in the second half and outshot UW-Eau Claire 9-4, including 5-1 on frame, but the game remained scoreless. Juniors
Amanda Dietz and
Alli Seegers each had two shots on goal in the final 45 minutes, while sophomore
Janelle Minor had one.
In net, junior
Marguerite Mueller finished with one save. UW-Platteville's defense limited the Blugolds chances to just six shots in the draw.
UW-Platteville will get a bye in the first round of the WIAC Tournament before hosting a semifinals match on Friday, November 7. The Pioneers will face the highest remaining seed at 7 p.m.
