The largest volleyball crowd in UW-Platteville history saw two
of Wisconsin's best teams go head-to-head, as the Pioneers stopped
Viterbo's 23-match winning streak in front of 1,243 fans
Wednesday.
UW-Platteville beat the V-Hawks 14-25, 25-17, 25-18, 18-25,
15-13, improving to 14-3 overall. With its 23-match winning streak
snapped, the V-Hawks fell to 26-4.
The 1,243 fans topped the 1,106 that witnessed the 2005
Homecoming match against Augustana.
A balanced Pioneer attack was key against the well-rounded
Viterbo team. Emily Kaiser paced UW-Platteville with 15 kills,
while Brianna Kaiser had 14, Melissa Hillebrand 13, and Stephanie
Kirchner 10. Kirchner made a team-high 16 digs defensively, and
Abby Carey added 11. Ali Sikic paced the offense with 46
assists.
Katie Flock led the V-Hawks with a match-high 21 kills. The NAIA
school from La Crosse out-hit the Pioneers by a slim .214 to .198
margin, but had four more hitting errors in front of the raucous
crowd.
