Hogle's Late Goal Sends Pioneers To Road Win

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Senior Luke Hogle broke a tie in the 78th minute to send the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (1-1-1) to a 2-1 win over Mount Union (1-1-1) on Sunday afternoon from Kehres Stadium.

Junior Westley Hankes put the Pioneers on the board just nine minutes into the contest with his second goal of the season. Sophomore Caden Wits was credited with the assist on the score.

The Purple Raiders answered with a goal in the 23rd minute and the score remained even at one until halftime. UW-Platteville held a 6-3 shot advantage across the first 45 minutes, but Mount Union turned aside the Pioneers other three attempts on frame.

Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Waite, who entered at the start of the second half, made a pair of saves early in the half to keep the match tied before Hogle netted the game-winner in the 78th minute for the Pioneers. Sophomore Liam Holtzen and freshman Bryker Langfald had the assists on the goal.

The Pioneers defense held Mount Union to just two shots across the final 22 minutes, and neither try was on net as UW-Platteville held on for the one-goal victory.

For the contest, each team attempted eight shots, while the Pioneers led 6-4 in shots on goal. Waite was credited with the win, while junior Theodore Utz made one save while playing the first 45 minutes for UW-Platteville.

The Pioneers return home on Thursday night to face Coe College at 7 p.m.
