INDIANOLA, Iowa – A penalty kick goal sent the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (3-3-1) to a 1-0 loss at Simpson (2-2-3) on Saturday evening from Bill Buxton Stadium in Indianola, Iowa.
Scoring opportunities came at a premium for both teams, as the total number of shots was even at eight apiece. UW-Platteville had a slight edge in shots on goal at 3-2, but Simpson was able to capitalize on a penalty kick in the second half to win the game.
The Storm drew a foul in the box in the 73rd minute to earn the penalty kick and broke the scoreless game with the goal. UW-Platteville attempted two more shots across the final 17 minutes, including one that went off the left post on a shot by junior
Aiden Hatleberg, but were unable to find the tying score.
Junior
Theodore Utz got the start in goal for the Pioneers and finished with one save on two shots faced across 90 minutes.
Of UW-Platteville's eight shots, junior
Chase Dwinal had three, including two on goal. Five other Pioneers combined on the other five shot attempts.
The Pioneers travel to North Park on Wednesday night to play at 7 p.m.
