LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams capped off the three-day NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships with
Owen Orioles and
Izzy Peterson earning All-American honors from Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.
Freshman
Owen Orioles became the first Pioneer to All-American in the pole vault at an Outdoor Championships since Chas Spangenberg's podium finish in 2013. Orioles placed eighth in the event, clearing 5.00m (16-4.75) on his first attempt. Orioles cleared the opening bar of 4.75m on the first attempt and the second height of 4.90m on the second try. Orioles concludes an outstanding freshman year after qualifying for both the Indoor and Outdoor Championships with a trip to the podium.
Senior
Izzy Peterson earned All-America honors twice on Saturday with a pair of second place finishes in the 100m and 200m dashes. Peterson ran the 100m in 11.63 seconds and the 200m in 23.65 seconds. Peterson wraps up an outstanding season, qualifying for nationals in four events and finishing in the top-three in each event, including winning the 200m title at the Indoor Championships earlier this year. Peterson leaves UW-Platteville holding the school records in the outdoor 100m and 200m along with the indoor 60m, 200m, and 400m. Peterson is also a member of the school record holding relay team in the outdoor 4x100m relay.
Wrapping up competition was senior
Caden Schneider in the 5000m. Schneider finished 21
st with a time of 15:17.42. Schneider closes out a fantastic career, as a three-time national qualifier and All-American in the steeplechase. He also graduates as the school record holder in the steeplechase with a time of 8:52.70 and a two-time cross country national qualifier.
