This Week In Pioneer Athletics

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams will be busy this week, with baseball and softball each playing several conference games. Track and field hosts an outdoor meet this weekend, while women's golf begins the spring season.

Baseball Plays Six Home Games this Week
The Pioneers baseball team will play six conference games at home this week, starting with a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader against UW-La Crosse. UW-Platteville then welcomes in UW-Oshkosh for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday.

The Eagles enter the week at 11-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play after dropping a pair of games to UW-Whitewater this past Friday. UW-La Crosse wraps up the four-game series with the Warhawks on Monday afternoon before traveling to Platteville for Wednesday's games. Brady Burrill and Sam Viniard have been two of the Eagles' top hitters this season.

The Titans took three of four from UW-Stevens Point to improve to 8-11 overall and 4-4 in the WIAC. UW-Oshkosh holds a WIAC-low .256 team batting average this season and average a conference-worst 5.6 runs per game.
 
Track and Field Hosts UW-Platteville Invitational
The Pioneers track and field teams will host the UW-Platteville Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Friday's events will feature the hammer throw as well as a busy night of 5000m runs. The remainder of the meet's events will take place on Saturday with field events slated for 11 a.m. and running events beginning at noon.
 
Softball Travels this Weekend to open WIAC Play
The Pioneers softball team hits the road for a pair of WIAC doubleheaders this weekend. On Saturday, UW-Platteville faces UW-River Falls at noon and 2 p.m. before playing UW-Stout at the same time Sunday.

The Falcons are at the bottom of the WIAC standings with a 7-16 record on the season. Caitlyn Kressel has been UW-River Falls' best hitter this season with a .391 batting average, two home runs, and 16 RBI.

The Blue Devils sit at 13-9 overall on the season entering the week. Offensively, UW-Stout is averaging 6.4 runs per game while hitting .330 as a team this season. In the circle, Sarah Wilkins boasts a 1.94 ERA across a WIAC-high 57.2 innings pitched.
 
Women's Golf Opens Spring Schedule
The Pioneers women's golf team begins its spring schedule this weekend at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling in Normal, Illinois. Illinois Wesleyan will serve as the host at the two-day invite.
