This Week In Pioneer Athletics

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams will compete this week, with baseball and softball continuing conference action with several road contests. Track and field and women's golf each travel for competition this week.

Softball Continues Conference Play on the Road
Riding a six-game win streak, the Pioneers softball team travels for six WIAC contests this week. On Tuesday, UW-Platteville faces UW-La Crosse in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. before heading to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. The Pioneers then face UW-Stout on Sunday in Menomonie with game times set for noon and 2 p.m.

The Eagles are 16-10 on the season and 1-2 in conference play, with the lone win coming over UW-Whitewater. Lindsay Steien has been the top hitter for UW-La Crosse with a .446 batting average, while Marissa Pease and Brooke Howard share the team lead with 17 RBI.

The Pointers sit 20-6 overall and 2-2 in the WIAC after getting swept by UW-Whitewater this past Friday. Pitching has been the strength for UW-Stevens Point with a 1.55 team ERA. Kodi Rizzo (1.03 ERA), Mallorie Kreuser (1.52 ERA), Morgan Harwood (1.67), and Ashley Zygowski (1.91 ERA) all rank inside the top seven in the conference.

The Blue Devils are 14-12 this and 0-2 in conference entering the week with four WIAC doubleheaders on the schedule for the week. At the plate, Sarah Wilkins and Elly Holden have been two of the top power hitters in the WIAC, with nine combined home runs.
 
Baseball Travels for Six Games
The Pioneers baseball team will face UW-La Crosse in a road doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. before traveling to UW-Eau Claire for a four-game series this weekend. Game times on Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for noon and 3 p.m. each day.

The Eagles took the first two games against UW-Platteville and sit second in the conference with a 12-4, including 21-7 overall. UW-La Crosse boasts the top pitching staff in the WIAC behind AJ Curtis (2.32 ERA) and Owen Deprez (2.54 ERA). At the plate, Brady Burrill has a .422 batting average with four home runs and 31 RBI.

The Blugolds enter the week 15-12 overall and 8-7 in WIAC action. The offense is led by John DiGregorio, who has a team-high seven home runs and 30 RBI on the season.
 
Track and Field Splits Team Between Two Meets
With the WIAC Outdoor Championships coming up in two weeks, the Pioneers track and field teams will split its team between the Drake Relays and the Drake Alternative meet hosted by UW-Whitewater this weekend. The Drake Relays take place Friday and Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa, while the Alternative meet is scheduled for Saturday in Whitewater.
 
Women's Golf Competes at Viking Invitational
The Pioneers women's golf team wraps up its spring schedule this weekend at the two-day Viking Invitational hosted by Augustana (Ill.). Competition takes place on Saturday and Sunday from the Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois.
