This Week In Pioneer Athletics

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams will compete this week, with men's and women's basketball entering the final stretch before postseason action. The Pioneers wrestling teams begin postseason competition this weekend at the WIAC Championships, while track and field hosts an indoor meet Saturday.

Women's Basketball Takes on UW-Whitewater Wednesday
Coming off a pair of Top 25 wins last week, including taking down previously undefeated UW-Oshkosh, the Pioneers women's basketball team gets another tough test at home Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against No. 10 UW-Whitewater. UW-Platteville then wraps up the week at UW-River Falls on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Warhawks fell to 6-4 in WIAC play and 16-5 overall after getting upset by UW-Stout on Saturday afternoon. Mia Gillis (12.2 points per game) and Bri McCurdy (9.3) are UW-Whitewater's top two scorers for a team that has lost two of the past three games.

The Falcons enter the week 12-9 on the year, including 5-5 in conference action. Zoey Buchan is the leading scorer for UW-River Falls, averaging 14.1 points per game, which ranks fourth in the WIAC.
 
Men's Basketball Back Home Saturday
The Pioneers men's basketball team travels to UW-Whitewater for a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday night before hosting UW-River Falls on Saturday at 5 p.m.

UW-Whitewater improved to 6-4 in conference play and 15-6 overall after a buzzer-beater from Brock Marino sent the Warhawks past UW-Stout over the weekend. The Warhawks have been one of the best scoring team in the WIAC, averaging 80.1 points per game, with Collin Madson's 17.0 per game ranking third in the conference.

UW-River Falls has lost three straight games to sit at 7-14 overall and 2-8 in conference play. The Falcons last win came over UW-Platteville behind Jack Leifker, who averages a team-high 14.2 points per game.
 
Track and Field Hosts Home Meet Saturday
The Pioneers track and field teams will compete at home this Saturday at the UW-Platteville Invite inside Williams Fieldhouse. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with running events slated to start at 11:30 a.m.
 
Wrestling Competes at WIAC Championships
After a week off, the Pioneers wrestling team will travel for the WIAC Championships hosted by UW-Eau Claire on Saturday. Action from the McPhee Physical Education Center begins at 11 a.m.
