This Week In Pioneer Athletics

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Four University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams will compete this week, with women's basketball taking on UW-Stevens Point at home on Wednesday. Men's basketball, wrestling, and track and field will all travel for competitions this week.

Women's Basketball at Home Wednesday
The Pioneers women's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing streak at home this Wednesday against UW-Stevens Point on Staff Appreciation Night. UW-Platteville beat the Pointers 63-57 in the first matchup between the two teams.

The Pointers have lost three straight contests to enter the week 12-6 overall and 1-6 in WIAC action. Maija Rice remains the conference leader in scoring with 16.3 points per game and is second in rebounding with 7.6 per game.
 
Men's Basketball Travels to UW-Stevens Point
The Pioneers men's basketball team will travel to No. 23 UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night in their lone game this week. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. UW-Platteville won the first meeting between the two teams 63-61 behind 22 points from Bristol Lewis.

The Pointers fell to 14-4 on the season and 4-3 in WIAC play after losing at UW-La Crosse on Saturday evening. Josiah Butler is the team's leading scorer, averaging 18.3 points per game.
 
Wrestling Heads to Pete Wilson Invite
With the WIAC Championships coming up in a couple weeks, the Pioneers wrestling team wraps up the regular season this weekend at the two-day Pete Wilson Invite hosted by Wheaton (Ill.). Competition begins at 11 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday in Wheaton, Illinois.
 
Track and Field Competes at Mark Schuck Open
After a strong showing in the indoor opener, including a pair of school records, the Pioneers track and field teams head to the Mark Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday. Friday's events in Mankato, Minnesota feature the start of the pentathlon and heptathlon in addition to men's pole vault and several distance events. The remainder of the events will take place on Saturday.
