PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams hosted the first day of the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon inside Williams Fieldhouse. Highlighting the day was a school record from senior
Izzy Peterson and junior
Hailey Campbell's winning mark in the high jump.
Men's Highlights
UW-Platteville's distance medley relay team of
Maxwell Voss,
James Ketterer,
Paul Treiber, and
Zachary Sporaa narrowly missed out on winning the event as their second-place time of 10:09.54 was just behind the top mark of 10:09.46.
Senior
Elijah Wade ran a personal best time of 4:16.75 in the mile to earn a podium finish. He took seventh place and scored a pair of points for the Pioneers.
Sophomore
Daniel Wenger scored in the shot put with his best toss of 16.20m coming on his final attempt. That mark was good for seventh place.
Freshmen
Braedon Shaner and
Owen Orioles tied for eighth place in the pole vault by reaching 4.80m.
In the 5000m run, senior
Caden Schneider placed sixth overall while running a time of 14:49.03.
Sophomore Cal Wrasman qualified for tomorrow's 60m hurdles finals with a PR of 8.34 in the prelims. His time was good for seventh in the preliminary round.
Women's Highlights
Junior
Hailey Campbell was crowned the WIAC champion in the high jump as she matched her own school record of 1.71m to win the event. She became the first Pioneer to win the women's high jump at the conference indoor championships.
Senior
Izzy Peterson broke her own school record in the prelims of the 60m dash with a time of 7.46. That time is also a UW-Platteville facility record and bested her time of 7.52 earlier this season. Peterson had the top time in the prelims and will advance to tomorrow's finals in the event.
Senior
Samantha Klann set a new personal-best in the shot put and finished second overall with a throw of 13.58m. Freshman
Paige Kurlinski joined Klann on the podium with a fourth-place finish after crushing her previous best mark in the event with a throw of 13.50m.
The Pioneers distance medley relay team of
Leah Digmann,
Sarah Knaack,
Ava Garrard, and
Megan Hageman put together a strong time of 12:33.51 to finish third overall. That time is good for sixth-best all-time in program history.

Day two of the WIAC Indoor Championships begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the opening events of the women's pentathlon and the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Field events start at 11 a.m. with the remainder of the running events set for 1:40 p.m.
