DUBUQUE, Iowa – With just a week until the WIAC Indoor Championships, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams traveled to Dubuque for the Solomon Butler Classic on Friday afternoon inside the A.Y. McDonald Indoor Track. Among the highlights for the meet was junior
Laura Weaver, who broke the school record in the weight throw.
Men's Highlights
Sophomore
Daniel Wenger shattered his previous personal record in the shot put with an event-winning throw of 16.42m on his third attempt of the day. That mark moves him up to fifth on the UW-Platteville all-time list.
The Pioneers had seven of the top eight finishers in the 3000m run, including the top three spots. Junior
Paul Pfeifer won the event with a PR time of 8:41.64, while junior
Matt Tippel (8:51.07) and junior
Alexander Albano (8:57.30) came in second and third.
Freshman
Braedon Shaner claimed the top spot in the pole vault at 4.63m. In second place was junior Trevor Schultz at 4.33m, while sophomore
Brandyn Beahm earned a fourth-place finish after reaching the 4.33m mark on his third try.
Sophomore
Callahan Wrasman ran a new personal-best of 8.41 seconds in the 60m hurdles to finish second in the finals. It's the second straight week he has set a new PR in the event.
In the mile, senior
Elijah Wade tallied a second-place finish with his personal best time of 4:19.12. Senior
Joshua Stone finished runner-up in the 800m run with his time of 1:56.86. He finished just .04 behind the first-place finisher.
Freshman
Mason Augustynowicz set a new PR in the 200m with a second-place time of 22.67 seconds. Senior
Evan Graves came in fourth in the same event at 22.90.
Running the 400m for the first time in his collegiate career, freshman
Caleb Kitelinger finished third overall at 50.83 seconds.
Women's Highlights
Junior
Laura Weaver threw a school record of 17.30m in the weight throw to place second in the event. That breaks the previous record of 17.01m from Paulina Wienke back in 2023. Senior
Samantha Klann came in second in the shot put, with her best throw of 13.33m coming on her sixth and final try. That mark was a 0.7m personal-best for Klann and moves her up to fourth on the UW-Platteville all-time list.
Junior
Megan Hageman was the winner in the mile, posting a time of 5:18.94 to finish over six seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Junior
Kendra Downing placed fourth in the same event at 5:27.63.
In the 3000m run, sophomore
Caitlin Wirth finished first by running an 11:29.69. Sophomore
Elsa Temples was third in the event at 11:37.00.
Freshman
Layla Slife established a new career-best in the 60m hurdles, with her time of 9.61 seconds in the prelims surpassing her previous mark. Slife later earned a runner-up finish in the finals with a time of 9.68 seconds. Slife also competed in the triple jump, where she tied for second with teammate
Briana Bain. Both freshmen reached 10.91m in the event.
Sophomore
Haley Stannard matched her PR in the 60m dash and finished second place in the event at 8.02 seconds. Stannard would also finish third in the 200m with a time of 26.62 seconds.
For the second consecutive week, junior
Ava Garrard set a new PR in the 800m, this time running a 2:23.89. That was good for third overall in the event.
In the high jump, junior
Hailey Campbell earned a second-place finish with a mark of 1.64m. Sophomore
Skyler McIlvried placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.10m. Junior
Evelyn Troxel took second in the pole vault at 3.50m.
Senior
Izzy Peterson ran the 200m at the Iowa Open hosted by the University of Iowa on Friday afternoon. She placed second in the event and ran 24.26 seconds on the banked track.

UW-Platteville will host the 2026 WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next Friday and Saturday inside Williams Fieldhouse. Events on Friday will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Saturday's events beginning at 10 a.m.
