Pioneers Host UW-Platteville Invite Saturday

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams hosted the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday afternoon while also recognizing the senior class following the meet. Senior Izzy Peterson highlighted the afternoon by breaking the school record in the 400 meter.

Men's Highlights
The Pioneers had the top three finishers in the 800m, led by senior Joshua Stone's winning time of 1:56.36. Junior Andrew Zimmerman came in second at 1:56.52, while senior Elijah Wade (1:57.61) placed third.

Freshman Mason Augustynowicz won the 400m dash with a time of 50.38 seconds. Less than a second behind was senior James Ketterer at 50.80 seconds, which was good for third. In the 200m, sophomore Kadyn Dixon ran 22.62 for third, while Ketterer finished fourth at 22.67 seconds. Ketterer would also earn a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.90m.

Freshman Logan Davis won the high jump by reaching a height of 1.80m. Two other competitors reached the same height, but Davis earned the top spot after clearing the bar on his second try.

Sophomore Maxwell Voss was the winner in the mile, finishing three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher at 4:27.22. Senior Dylan King took fourth in the same event with a time of 4:33.80. Junior Jackson Batt finished second in the 5000m run with a time of 16:05.07.

UW-Platteville had the top four finishers in the pole vault, led by freshman Braedon Shaner's first-place finish at 4.77m. Freshman Owen Orioles was second also at 4.77m, while Brandyn Beahm (4.47m) and junior Trevor Schulz (4.32m) rounded out the top four.

In the shot put, junior Colby Stotler threw 16.10m on his fourth attempt to earn a fourth-place finish.
 
Women's Highlights
Senior Izzy Peterson shattered the school record in the 400m and finished first in the event with a time of 56.06 seconds. Her time broke the record of 57.50 seconds previously held by Ann Tank from 2011 and also broke the facility record of 57.20 seconds from 2014. Peterson also won the 60m dash at the meet, running a time of 7.57 seconds in the prelims to advance. She claimed the top spot in the event with a time of 7.79 seconds in the finals.
Sophomore Elsa Temples ran a time of 19:58.61 in the 5000m run to win the event. Her time was over a minute faster than the second-place finisher.

Freshman Layla Slife advanced to the finals in the 60m hurdles and placed second with a season-best time of 9.67 seconds. In the 200m, junior Elianna Dalamangas ran a 26.17 to finish second. Sophomore Haley Stannard came in third in that event with a time of 26.55.

Senior Leah Digmann led the way for the Pioneers in the 800m run, finishing third overall in 2:22.87. Junior Megan Hageman was close behind for fourth at 2:23.21, while freshman Cecilia Skalsky came in fifth in 2:24.75. Later in the day, Digmann helped the Pioneers 4x400m relay team along with Kendra Downing, Lily Savikas, and Sarah Knaack finish second with a time of 4:23.18.

Sophomore Skyler McIlvried won the long jump at 4.76m. Sophomore Braycee Nelson finished second at 4.70m. Dalamangas was the winner in the triple jump at 11.05m, while freshman Briana Bain came in second at 10.73m. In the high jump, junior Hailey Campbell placed second at 1.68m.

In the shot put, senior Samantha Klann claimed third place with a top mark of 12.61m on her fourth attempt of the day. She also finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.17m.

Junior Laura Weaver won the weight throw competition with a new career-best of 16.65m on her third attempt. That mark ties her for second place on the Pioneers all-time list.

Junior Evelyn Troxel placed runner-up in the pole vault by reaching 3.55m. Freshman Skylar Stare was third at 3.40m, while sophomore Kaitlyn Lisafeld took fourth at 3.40m.
 
Up Next
The Pioneers will travel across the river for the Solomon Butler Classic hosted by Dubuque next Friday. It's the final competition for UW-Platteville before the WIAC Indoor Championships, which will be hosted by the Pioneers on February 27 and 28.
