WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville track and field teams sent a group of distance runners to compete in the 5K at the Midwest Elite Invite hosted by UW-Whitewater on Friday night inside Kachel Fieldhouse.
In the men's 5K, junior
Zachary Sporaa closed strong and finished fifth overall in the field of 126 runners. He posted a time of 14:28.45 in the event.
Finishing close behind was senior
Caden Schneider, who took ninth overall with a time of 14:29.90.
Among the other runners in the men's race were senior
Justin Behnke, who set a new PR of 15:11.43 to take 52nd. Junior
Matt Tippel placed 63rd in 15:20.86, while junior
Alexander Albano ran a 15:21.69 to finish 70th.
Senior
Avery Brown was the women's top finisher in the 5K, placing 44th overall in the field of 92 runners with a season-best time of 18:44.28.
Caitlin Wirth (19:34.04) and
Alexa Leonard (19:43.96) came in 76th and 78th, respectively.
The rest of the Pioneers track and field team will compete at the UW-Platteville Invite tomorrow. Events will begin inside Williams Fieldhouse at 11 a.m.
