WHEATON, Ill. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team was one of 31 teams competing Friday at the 84
th annual Pete Wilson Invitational hosted in King Arena at Wheaton College.
Junior
Blake Delsman advanced to Saturday's placing matches at 165 pounds while the Pioneers currently sit 17th while scoring 27.5 team points.
After losing to the three seed in the opening bout, Delsman picked up four falls on the backside of the bracket to advance to Saturday's competition.
Sophomore
Kain Killmer won his first match of the day with a 14-4 major decision in the 197-pounds bracket. Killmer suffered a loss in the next bout, but then pinned his next opponent (3:56) before dropping his final match by 8-5 decision.
In the 285-pounds bracket, junior
Jackson Kirsch pinned his first opponent (5:38) before moving to the backside of the bracket following his next match. Kirsh picked up a win by 7-1 decision before exiting the event following a narrow loss by 3-2 decision.
Freshman
Owen Becker started his day with a loss, but then bounced back with a win by pin fall (6:03) and then an 8-6 decision featuring a takedown and nearfall in the final period. Becker exited the event following a loss by 6-3 decision.
Competition will continue for Delsman on Saturday.
