Delsman Takes Home Jack Swartz Award at Pete Wilson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. – Junior Blake Delman wrapped up competition for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville wrestling team on Saturday as he finished 7th place at the 84th annual Pete Wilson Invitational, hosted in King Arena at Wheaton College. 

Delsman went 5-2 during the two-day tournament after being seeded 30th of 32 wrestlers in the 165-pounds bracket. After competition, he was awarded the Jack Swartz Award which is given to the wrestler who records the most falls in the least amount of time. Delsman tallied five falls in a total of 15:32. 

Overall, the Pioneers finished 20th overall out of the 31 teams competing at the event and Delsman accounted for 16 of the total 30.5 team points. 

Delsman advanced to Saturday's placing matches at 165 pounds by stacking four falls on the backside of the bracket. Delsman fell by 14-5 major decision in his first match of the day before  pinning Aiden Stecker of Mount Union (3:45) in the 7th place match. 

Next up, the Pioneers will take a break to prepare for the WIAC Championships hosted in Eau Claire on February 14.
