FOND DU LAC, WIS. – Four different Pioneers scored five goals in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team's (2-0-1) 5-1 victory at Marian University (1-1-1) Wednesday night on Smith Field.
Senior
Ethan Dietrich picked up his second goal of the season as a goal in the sixth minute put the Pioneers up by one.
The next two goals of the half came from senior
Danny Gutzwiller. A goal assisted by senior
Sebastian Carranza in the 20
th minute was trailed less than ten minutes later by another Gutzwiller goal following a corner kick.
Leading 3-0 at the half, the Sabres got on the board in the 53
rd minute on a successful penalty kick. UW-Platteville was quick to reinstate the three-goal advantage when Carranza scored his first goal of the season three minutes later.
Freshman
Dillon Pliszka's first career goal wrapped up the night's scoring in the 68
th minute and the Pioneers shut down Marian from attempting a single shot in the final 32 minutes of the night.
After holding a four-shot advantage at halftime, UW-Platteville outshot Marian 12-2 in the second half. For the game, the Pioneers attempted 20 shots, nine of which were on frame. Gutzwiller had a game-high five shots in the match while Carranza had two.
UW-Platteville also held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal, senior
Seth Aiken started the game and saved three of four shots he faced across the first 68:44 of the match.
The Pioneers will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 3 when they host Simpson College in their home opener at 3 p.m.
