PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – In a dominant performance, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (3-0-1) blanked Simpson (1-2-2) by a final score of 3-0 in the 2025 home opener on Saturday afternoon inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers finished with a 24-3 advantage in shots and held the Storm to zero attempts on target over the course of the contest. UW-Platteville finished with 11 shots on goal, coming from eight different players, including two apiece from seniors
Sebastian Carranza and
Danny Gutzwiller and junior
Timi Usikalu.
Senior
Alester Dawson opened the scoring for the Pioneers in the ninth minute, his second goal of the season. Senior
Ethan Dietrich and Gutzwiller were credited with assists, as the throw-in play allowed Dawson to beat the keeper with a shot off his right foot.
Later in the first half, Gutzwiller converted a penalty kick goal on a shot to lower right corner to increase the UW-Platteville lead. The 23rd minute goal was his second on the year.
The final goal of the match for the Pioneers came in the 72nd minute on sophomore
Westley Hankes' first of the year. Freshman
Caden Wits picked up the assist on the score.
The shutout was the second of the season for senior goalkeeper
Seth Aiken, and the Pioneers defense stymied the Storm attack to keep Aiken clean throughout the contest. The three shots faced were the fewest allowed by UW-Platteville so far this season.
The Pioneers will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Tuesday evening for a 5 p.m. match against Coe.
