DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (4-2-2) fell 3-1 on the road to Loras (5-0-3) in a non-conference match on Wednesday night inside the Rock Bowl in Dubuque.
The Duhawks broke through late in the first half, scoring in the 42nd minute on their fifth shot attempt of the game. Loras carried that momentum into the second half, as Dani Galiana Torres scored goals in the 52nd and 61st minutes to increase the lead to three.
Junior
Zachary Fier put the Pioneers on the board in the 87th minute with his first goal of the season. Junior
Luke Hogle picked up the assist on the score.
UW-Platteville outshot Loras 19-11 for the match, including 10-8 in shots on goal. Twelve different players recorded at least one shot for the Pioneers, led by three apiece from seniors
Sebastian Carranza and
Danny Gutzwiller. All three of Gutzwiller's attempts ended up on goal to pace the Pioneers in that category.
In goal, senior
Seth Aiken finished with five saves on eight shots faced while playing just over 67 minutes. He was replaced by freshman
Connor Waite for the remainder of the contest. Waite did not face any shots on goal across the last 23 minutes.
The Pioneers return home for a Wednesday night game against Wartburg next week. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
