KENOSHA, Wis. – A first half goal was the only offense in the match as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (1-0-1) beat Carthage 1-0 for its first win of the season on Sunday night at Art Keller Field in Kenosha.
The Pioneers offense found the back of the net in the early goings for the second consecutive match, as senior
Alester Dawson scored his first goal of the season on a corner kick in the fifth minute. Seniors
Ethan Dietrich and
Cael Harris were credited with assists on the goal.
That lone goal proved to be enough for UW-Platteville to earn the victory, as stifling defense and strong goaltending from senior
Seth Aiken secured the win. Carthage managed just eight total shots, including four on goal in the second half, in the loss.
UW-Platteville finished with 22 shots, seven of which finished on frame. Senior
Sebastian Carranza led the team with six shots and three on goal, while Dietrich added five shots. Ten different players recorded at least one shot for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers head to Fond du Lac on Wednesday night to take on Marian (Wis.) and wrap up the three-game road trip. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
*As with every UW-Platteville win this year, the Platteville A&W will be offering a $3 Pioneer burger the day after the win and the Platteville Taco John's will be offering 10 tacos for $10 the day after each Pioneer win.
