Pioneers Begin Season With Draw At Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2025 campaign with a 2-2 draw at Hamline (0-0-1) on Friday evening from Paterson Field in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Pioneers got on the board in the fourth minute, as senior Ethan Dietrich netted his first goal of the season on an assist by junior Brady Harwood. Hamline answered in the 16th minute, but a foul in the box in the following minute gave UW-Platteville the opportunity to regain the lead. Harwood came through, with the penalty kick goal, and the Pioneers held the 2-1 advantage for the remainder of the half.

Midway through the second half, the Pipers evened the match at two apiece after a UW-Platteville foul gave Hamline a good scoring opportunity in the 71st minute. The Pioneers attempted five shots in the closing minute to try and break the deadlocked score, but the contest concluded tied at two.

UW-Platteville held a 21-14 advantage in shots, but the teams were even in shots on goal with eight apiece. Senior goalkeeper Seth Aiken made six saves for the Pioneers in the season opener.

Harwood paced the team in shots with nine, including four on frame. Senior Danny Gutzwiller added a pair of shots on target.

The Pioneers remain on the road for a match at Carthage on Sunday evening. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
