OSHKOSH, Wis. – In a preview of the upcoming WIAC Championships course, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville cross country teams ran at the UW-Oshkosh Open on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers looked to finalize their top runners for the championship meet, with the men placing first out of three teams and the women taking second out of four on Friday.
Men's Highlights
The men totaled 21 points to lead the three scoring teams. UW-Whitewater (39) and UW-Oshkosh (72) followed behind in the meet.
Junior 
Phillip Dart was UW-Platteville's top finisher, as he placed sixth overall with a time of 26:03.2 in the 8K race. He was the top overall scorer at the meet, placing behind an unattached runner and four Wisconsin TC competitors.
Right behind Dart was senior 
Justin Behnke, who took seventh overall with a time of 26:06.6. Sophomore 
Owen Danihel placed ninth behind a time of 26:12.3 to close out the Pioneers top three runners.
Rounding out the top five for UW-Platteville was junior 
Jack Ziegler and sophomore 
Max Sorgenfrey. Ziegler ran a 26:13.5 for 11th while Sorgenfrey crossed the line in 26:22.7 for 16th.
Women's Highlights
The women scored 46 points, finishing second in the 6K race behind UW-Whitewater (21 points). Viterbo (76) and UW-Oshkosh (89) rounded out the scoring teams.
Freshman 
Alexa Leonard was the team's top finisher, placing third overall behind a time of 23:57.6. Similar to the men's race, Leonard was the top overall scorer in the race, placing behind one Wisconsin TC runner and an unattached runner.
Sophomore 
Elsa Temples placed 12th while running a 24:44.4 to finish as the Pioneers second runner, while senior 
Angela Meiners was eight second behind (24:52.4) for 14th overall.
Wrapping up the top five scorers was freshmen 
Julianna Moran and 
Sarah Knaack who placed back-to-back. Moran was 20th overall with a time of 25:33.6 while Knaack took 21st in 25:34.9.
Up Next
The Pioneers will compete at the WIAC Championships next Saturday in Oshkosh. The men will run first at noon with the women to follow at 1 p.m.
