Pioneers Draw with UW-Superior on Sunday Afternoon

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (3-0-2) battled the UW-Superior Yellowjackets (0-1-2) to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. 

Both teams had nearly equal chances in each half of the fast-paced contest. The Pioneers finished the first half with six total shots and two on frame. The Yellowjackets totaled seven shots in the first half, putting three on goal.

In the second half, UW-Superior broke through first, scoring a goal in the 58th minute with a shot made off a deflected shot following a corner kick. The lead would not last for even a minute as the Pioneers answered back with a goal by junior Lucas Schoeneberg assisted by sophomore Danny Gutzwiller following a corner kick. UW-Platteville totaled six shots in the second half with five on goal. The Yellowjackets added eight shots in the second half with six on goal. 

Sophomore Seth Aiken tallied eight saves while UW-Superior's Alex Paredes recorded six saves. 

The Pioneers totaled 13 shots in the game, including seven on goal. Schoeneberg led the team with two shots, both on goal. The Yellowjackets finished the day with 14 shots, including nine on goal.

Next up, UW-Platteville hits the road on Friday, September 15 for a 7:30 p.m. match at Webster University.
