WHITEWATER, Wis. – UW-Whitewater shut out the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team, 2-0 on Friday at Fiskum Field.
UWW's John Gottwald curved in the ball into the back of the net on a corner, scoring the game's first goal in the 41st-minute.
Then a Pioneer red card at the 40:52 mark, forced UW-Platteville to play a man down for the final 50 minutes of the game.
UW-Platteville almost tied the game up in the 68th-minute when Jon Stopple's header hit the post.
The Warhawks found an insurance goal in the 77th-minute, taking a 2-0 lead.
Whitewater ended the game with a 21-3 shot advantage and tallied 10 corner kicks.
The Pioneers will be the fourth-seed in the 2014 WIAC Men's Soccer Tournament, and will travel to either to UW-Oshkosh or UW-Whitewater on Tuesday. The seeds will be finalize after the Titans and the Warhawks square off on Sunday.
