Using long passes to set up the offense, UW-Platteville beat
visiting Ripon College 9-1 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in
Pioneer Stadium.
The Pioneers, who have scored 17 goals in their last two games,
found the back of the net on three chances in the first 22:19.
Mitch Cornelius (2:20), B.J. Gottschlich (11:44), and Chris Brown
(22:19) finished off goals after excellent passing
combinations.
Leading 3-0 at the half, the Pioneers poured it on in the second
half. Both Gottschlich and Cornelius scored their second goals of
the afternoon, while Mark Ciszewski had two goals in the second
period. Ryan McElmeel and Cameron Weess added second-half scores
for the Pioneers, who improved to 5-4-1. Brandon Chmiel was
credited with three assists, and Cornelius had two for Coach Enzo
Fuschino's team.
Alvaro Calle had the lone goal for the Red Hawks, coming on a
nifty play off a free kick which made the score 6-1. Ripon dropped
to 5-2-1 on the season.
