UW-Oshkosh, ranked 20th in the country, beat visiting
UW-Platteville 2-0, handing the Pioneers their first-ever Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss Thursday.
Ryan Hanna scored at 66:43, and Tim Stadler converted a penalty
kick at 68:27 for the Titans, who improved to 6-0-1 overall.
The Pioneers, who fell to 3-3-1, had six shots on goal in the
second half but were stopped by UWO keeper James Pike.
UW-Platteville, 2-0-2 in the inaugural WIAC season in 2009,
plays host to Carleton Sunday at 1 p.m.
The 20th ranked Titans were 5-0-1 coming into the contest,
yielding just one goal all year long (in a 1-1 tie with
Carthage.)
Since 1998, the annual clash of UW-Platteville vs. UW-Oshkosh is
also for the Eberlein Cup, named in honor of Fred Eberlein, who
coached the Pioneers for 25 years before retiring in 1997. Eberlein
passed away this summer.
