DUBUQUE, Iowa – Despite holding an advantage in shots, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (4-3-3) women's soccer team was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit in a 2-1 loss at Dubuque (3-4-2) on Tuesday night from Oyen Field.
The Pioneers outshot the Spartans 22-11 in the match and led 9-7 in shots on goal. Freshman
Morgan Hospodarsky had several opportunities, finishing with a team-high five shots and scoring UW-Platteville's lone goal late in the second half, while senior
Jess Morawski added four shots.
The contest entered halftime scoreless, with the Pioneers finishing with eight shots and four on goal across the opening 45 minutes. Dubuque broke through early in the second half, getting a long goal following a corner kick in the 52nd minute.
An insurance goal with seven minutes remaining put the Spartans ahead by two goals before Hospodarsky found the back of the net in the 87th minute to cut the deficit in half. The third goal of the season for Hospodarsky came after she chased down a rebound and placed a shot out of reach of the keeper.
Morawski had one last shot attempt for the Pioneers in the final minute, but Dubuque held on for the win.

Marguerite Mueller made five saves on seven shots faced. Mueller has now recorded at least five saves in three consecutive games.
UW-Platteville begins WIAC play this Saturday at home against UW-Stout Polytechnic. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.
