MEQUON, Wis. – The offense scored three goals for the second straight game as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (4-2-3) blanked Concordia Wisconsin (3-5-0) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday evening from Fitting Field in Mequon.
Both teams had scoring chances in the early stages of the contest before senior
Jess Morawski broke through with her third goal of the season in the 20th minute. Morawski has now scored in three consecutive games for the Pioneers, while sophomore
Mira Petri tallied an assist for the second straight contest.
UW-Platteville had four more shots on goal as time ran down in the opening half, but the Falcons kept it at 1-0 entering the break.
Senior
Sarah Liljestrand added to the Pioneers lead in the 60th with an unassisted goal, her first score of the season. Concordia Wisconsin had the next five shots on goal as it tried to mount a comeback, but senior goalkeeper
Marguerite Mueller stopped each attempt to keep the Falcons scoreless.
In the 79th minute, freshman
Morgan Hospodarsky made it 3-0 in favor of UW-Platteville with her second goal of the season. Morawski was credited with the assist, giving her a goal and the assist in the game.
The Pioneers dominated the scoring opportunities for much of the contest, finishing with a 21-12 advantage in total shots and 13-7 in shots on goal. Mueller made a season-high seven saves to tally her third shutout of the season.
Morawski paced the team with four shots, while Petri and sophomore
Raven Rogers each added three. All three of Rogers shots were on target, which led UW-Platteville.
UW-Platteville travels to Dubuque on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. start time.
