WHITEWATER, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville baseball team (16-12, 7-11 WIAC) wrapped up the weekend with a pair of losses to No. 7 UW-Whitewater (25-3, 17-0) on Sunday afternoon from Prucha Field. The Warhawks took game one 3-1 before winning a close game two 4-3.
Game One
The Pioneers pitching put together a strong effort in game one, holding the Warhawks offense to just three runs on six hits. Freshman
Sam Callow (4-1) got the start and allowed three runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts across 5.1 inning before giving way to freshman
Carver Kamentz. Kamentz blanked UW-Whitewater over the final 3.2 innings, giving up just two hits and striking out two.
UW-Platteville was unable to get much going offensively however, scoring just one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by freshman
Brayden Knoll that scored sophomore
Anthony Massa. The Pioneers threatened in the sixth with two runners in scoring position with one out, but the Warhawks escaped the jam and then held UW-Platteville to just one base runner over the final three innings.
Massa reached base three times and had two of UW-Platteville's four hits in the contest, while senior
Mason Molitor and junior
Evan Bohr each had one.
Game Two
UW-Whitewater opened game two with three runs in the top of the first inning before the Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by freshman
Ethan Birkel.
The Warhawks added one run to the lead in the third and the score remained 4-1 until the sixth inning. With two runners in scoring position, junior
Dylan Rippentrop singled up the middle to score Molitor and senior
Connor Gresens to make it a one-run game at 4-3. The Pioneers were unable to find the equalizer as UW-Whitewater hung on to win.
Junior
Aidan Kelsick suffered the loss after allowing three runs in the first inning. Sophomore
Logan Kottmeyer tossed the next 3.1 innings while allowing just one run, before senior
Wyatt Fischer followed with 2.2 scoreless innings. Sophomore
