EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Senior
Joey Fuhremann scored a career-high 28 points as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's basketball team (16-8, 8-5 WIAC) ran away with an 86-56 road win over UW-Eau Claire (14-10, 3-10 WIAC) on Wednesday night inside Sonnentag Event Center.
Fuhremann shot 11-of-14 from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line en route to his 28 points. Twenty of those points came in the first half, as Fuhremann went 9-of-10 from the floor to help the Pioneers take a commanding 49-23 lead at the break. The senior also grabbed seven rebounds, including three on the offensive end.
Three other Pioneers reached double digits in the win, including junior
Bristol Lewis, who scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting. Seniors
Max Love and
Aiden Wieczorek each added 10 points as UW-Platteville shot 56.9 percent (33-of-58) from the floor in the game, the team's second-best mark in a game this season. The Pioneers knocked down nine threes and finished 11-of-11 from the charity stripe.
After the Blugolds scored the first points of the game, UW-Platteville scored the next 10 unanswered, highlighted by three-point makes by Love and Wieczorek. Fuhremann went to work down low with a quick 10 points and another 10-point run, capped by a three by junior
Max Lucey, made it 28-10 midway through the half. The Pioneers later scored the final nine points of the half, six of which came from Fuhremann, to take the 26-point lead into halftime.
The lead continued to grow in the second half, and three-point baskets by junior
Lucas Rameker and Lewis helped push the advantage to a game-high 33 points at 61-28. As the game wound down, freshman
Cooper Hoffman hit a three and sophomores
Sawyer Schipper and
Cameron Morel each added buckets to conclude the 30-point win.
UW-Platteville scored 46 of its 80 points in the paint and outrebounded UW-Eau Claire 41-19. Rameker had game-highs in rebounds (eight) and assists (six) in addition to his eight points. Freshman
Ben Forbes grabbed five boards, while Love blocked two shots and added two steals on the defensive end.
Andre Renta scored 22 points to lead the Blugolds, who shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor and 34.6 percent (9-of-26) from beyond the arc.
The Pioneers wrap up the regular season at home with Senior Day on Saturday afternoon against UW-Stout. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
