Miczek's Goal Leads To Draw At Luther

DECORAH, Iowa – Sophomore Alex Miczek scored the game-tying goal in the 85th minute as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (7-4-3) posted a 2-2 draw with Luther (8-2-3) on Tuesday night from Luther College Soccer Field.

Miczek's second goal of the season helped the Pioneers answer two unanswered scores by Luther in the second half. With just over five minutes remaining, sophomore Roberto Salinas took a free kick from just outside the box. His shot attempt was saved, but Miczek was there to collect the second-chance goal.

Senior Zac Monnett got the scoring started just 24 seconds into the contest after firing a rebound into the back of the net following a shot attempt by sophomore Caden Wits. Monnett has now scored four goals this season, including three in the past four games. Wits earned the assist, his third straight match with a point.

The remainder of the first half was scoreless, with Luther outshooting UW-Platteville 7-4. The Norse found more offensive success in the second half, first tying the game in the 60th minute before taking the lead in the 76th minute.

Luther finished the contest with a 13-11 advantage in total shots, but the Pioneers led 7-5 in shots on goal. Wits had a team-high four shots for UW-Platteville, while freshman Calen Wahlberg had three shots off the bench.

In goal, sophomore Connor Waite recorded three saves on five shots faced.

The Pioneers return home on Saturday to face UW-River Falls for Senior Day. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
