The Pioneers finished 7-of-20 (35.0 percent) from three while going nearly perfect from the free throw line (13-of-14).
The Blugolds entered the contest as one of the top defensive teams in NCAA DIII but were unable to slow the Pioneers attack. UW-Platteville became the first team this season to surpass 80 points against UW-Eau Claire and were just the second to reach 70 points. The Pioneers dominated on the glass 33-17 and secured 12 offensive rebounds. That led to 20 second chance points for UW-Platteville compared to just two for the Blugolds.
It was a defensive battle early in the contest, with the score sitting tied at nine just over eight minutes in. The Pioneers began to pull ahead over the next couple minutes behind a 9-1 run, and a three-point make by Rameker gave the home team its biggest lead of the half at 27-12. The advantage remained in double figures for the rest of the half, and UW-Platteville took a 37-23 lead into the break.
Three-point makes by Wieczorek and Lewis early in the second half helped push the lead up to 19, and an eight-point run midway through the half fueled by Hettinger and Fuhremann made it 72-41. The gap reached a game-high 34 in the closing minutes as the Pioneers cruised to the 88-55 victory.
UW-Eau Claire shot 50.0 percent (22-of-44) in the game but were limited to just 12.5 percent (2-of-16) from beyond the arc. The Blugolds also struggled from the free throw line, shooting just 40.9 percent (9-of-22). Carter Lichtsinn was the lone player to reach double figures, scoring 11 points.
The Pioneers will face another tough conference test this weekend, as they welcome in No. 6 UW-La Crosse on Saturday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
