PLATTEVILLE, WIS. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (9-5) wrapped up a successful UW-Platteville Quadrangular on Saturday with a pair of sweeps against Marian (1-13) and MSOE (3-11) inside Williams Fieldhouse.
Match One Highlights
After jumping out to a 5-0 lead, a 9-1 run following seven kills put the Pioneers ahead 18-4. Five kills by senior
Kierney McDonald got UW-Platteville to set-point and a kill by sophomore
Brooklyn Radecke sealed the 25-9 victory.
In the second set, The Pioneers pulled ahead 16-7, but a 5-0 run followed by another 4-1 rally put Marian right behind UW-Platteville 19-18. Leading 23-20, a service error followed by an ace by sophomore
Kennedey Barber gave the Pioneers a 25-20 victory.
Similar to set one, the Pioneers rolled Marian to start off with a 17-6 lead and a kill by sophomore
Abby Bauer followed by a service error finished the set 25-10 and the match.
The Pioneers finished with 44 kills behind a season-high .459 hitting percentage. McDonald led the offensive attack with 14 kills.
Senior
Gracie Gibbens finished with a team-high 16 assists, while freshman
Delali Amankwa had a team-high six digs.
Match Two Highlights
An 8-0 run which included three kills by junior
Bria Johnston set the Pioneers ahead 13-5. The Pioneers pushed that lead to 24-12, but six straight from MSOE gave the Red Raiders some hope of a comeback before Radecke finished off the set 25-18 with the kill.
The second set stayed much closer as MSOE drew within one, 12-11. A kill by McDonald and an ace by Johnston pushed the Pioneers' advantage to 18-13 and a kill by Radecke before an attack error finished the set 25-19.
Chasing the second sweep of the day, back-to-back aces by Johnston put the Pioneers ahead 15-6 and shortly after, a kill by sophomore
Paige Foltz finished the set 25-17.
Radecke finished with a match-high 12 kills while McDonald added 11 more kills to the stat sheet behind .429 hitting. As a whole, the Pioneers finished with a .215 hitting percentage. Gibbens had match-high 18 assists and as a team, UW-Platteville had 10 service aces in the match.
McDonald and Radecke each finished with four block assists while junior
Kennedy Wenger finished with three block assists. Senior
Kelsey Ewert tallied 12 digs to lead the match.
