Pioneers Post Sweep Of Beloit In Home Opener

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team (6-5) put together a dominant effort on Tuesday night, sweeping Beloit (2-8) by scores of 25-10, 25-7, and 25-13 in the 2025 home opener inside Williams Fieldhouse.

In a complete team effort, ten different players recorded at least one kill, led by seven from sophomore Abby Bauer. Freshman Grace Rohde added six kills on a team-best .625 hitting percentage, and sophomore Kennedey Barber tallied five. The Pioneers recorded 36 total kills across the sweep on a season-best .357 hitting percentage.

The Pioneers set a season-high for service aces as well, with seniors Gracie Gibbens and Kelsey Ewert tying for the team lead with three each. Freshman Delali Amankwa had a team-high six digs while adding six assists. Sophomore Ava Valentin paced the team with nine assists followed by eight from Gibbens.

An early 10-1 run in the opening set saw the Pioneers turn a three-point lead into a 17-5 advantage. That gap continued to grow down the stretch, and UW-Platteville wrapped up the 25-10 win on a kill from senior Makayla Mau and a service ace from Ewert.

The Pioneers scored the first five points in set two and later used a seven-point run to pull ahead 19-5. Beloit committed several attack errors over the final couple points as UW-Platteville claimed the second set by a score of 25-7.

The Buccaneers hung closer to start the third set but a 6-1 run by the Pioneers made it a nine-point lead. Bauer and Rohde closed out the sweep by combining for five kills across UW-Platteville's final six points for the 25-13 set three win.

UW-Platteville remains at home this Friday for a WIAC match against UW-Stout. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
