PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Fall sports are in full swing for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams, with men's and women's soccer both playing home contests later this week. Football opens the season Saturday at Aurora, while volleyball and women's golf compete on the road.
Volleyball On the Road for Two Matches
After going 2-1 at the Trinity (Tex.) Tournament this past weekend against a trio of ranked opponents, the Pioneers volleyball team will play a pair of road contests this week. UW-Platteville heads to Augustana (Ill.) on Wednesday before traveling to Cornell on Friday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The Vikings dropped the season opener to Rose-Hulman but bounced back with a pair of sweeps over Illinois College and Eureka to enter the week at 2-1. Lucy Pufundt leads the team offensively with 2.29 kills per set.
Cornell is 3-0 on the year after beating Buena Vista, Macalester, and Carroll last weekend. Four different Rams have at least 20 kills, with Ashlin Nottestad, Mia Tubbs, and Ally Olmstead sharing the team lead with 24 total kills.
Men's Soccer Set for Two Contests
Coming off a draw and a win to begin the season, the Pioneers men's soccer team starts the week with a road game at Marian on Wednesday at 7 p.m. UW-Platteville then welcome in Simpson on Saturday for the home opener at 3 p.m.
The Sabres are 1-0-1 to start the year after drawing with Carthage and beating Ripon 2-1 on Sunday. Sophomore Jay Wolcott scored the game-winning game for Marian in the second of the win over Ripon.
The Storm sit at 0-1-2 and recently lost 3-1 at Carleton on Monday. Sal Fratianni and Zach Kline have eached scored this season for Simpson.
Women's Soccer Plays Home Opener Friday
The Pioneers women's soccer team hosts St. Scholastica for the 2025 home opener on Friday evening at 5 p.m. UW-Platteville hits the road on Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. game at Augustana (Ill.).
The Saints played Loras to a scoreless draw in the season opener but fell 1-0 to Luther College on Sunday night. Goalkeeper Rylee Senich has posted 20 saves across the first two matches for a .952 save percentage.
The Vikings are 0-1 on the season after falling 1-0 at Marian last Friday. Augustana (Ill.) hosts Illinois College on Wednesday night before welcoming in the Pioneers on Saturday.
Football Travels to No. 22 Aurora
The Pioneers football team will kick off the 2025 season on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a non-conference matchup with No. 22 Aurora.
The Spartans finished 9-2 in 2024, including an 8-0 record in the NACC, before ultimately falling 49-21 to Hope in the NCAA DIII Playoff. Senior defensive back Andrew Nordland and junior defensive lineman JP Chaney each reach preseason All-American recognition by D3football.com.
Women's Golf Competes at Mount Mercy
After placing 10th at the season-opening Falcon Invite, the Pioneers women's golf team competes at the Mount Mercy University Invite this weekend. UW-Platteville will tee off at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this Saturday and Sunday.
Cross Country Hosts Alumni Meet
The Pioneers cross country teams will run at the UW-Platteville Alumni Open on Saturday morning. The men will run at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women at 10:05 a.m. from Memorial Park in Platteville.
