MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's soccer team (1-0-0) opened its 2025 season with a 2-0 road victory over Augsburg University (0-1-0) on Friday evening.
After a scoreless first half on Edor Nelson Field, junior
Sarah Liljestrand put the Pioneers on the board in the 62
nd minute. Freshman
Kaylin Wegand doubled UW-Platteville's lead in the 73
rd minute with a goal assisted by fellow freshman
Raven Rogers.
In a strong debut game, freshman goalkeeper
Sophia Vriesema recorded eight saves across 90 minutes in goal.
Augsburg held a 20-9 advantage in shots with the Pioneers placing four shots on goal. Junior
Margaret Slove paced the Pioneers with three shots, including two on frame, while Augsburg's Jayla Ponce finished with a game-high seven attempts.
UW-Platteville will return to action on Monday, Sept. 1 when the team makes the trip back to Minnesota for a 6 p.m. game at Saint Mary's University.
