This Week In Pioneer Athletics

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – It's a busy week for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville athletic teams, with both soccer teams closing out the regular season this week. Cross country competes at the WIAC Championships on Saturday, while football hosts UW-Oshkosh this weekend. Volleyball travels for three matches, with men's basketball and wrestling beginning their 2025 campaigns this week as well.

Men's Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season on the Road
The Pioneers men's soccer team hits the road to conclude the regular season this week, starting with a matchup with No. 4 St. Olaf at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. UW-Platteville then travels to UW-Whitewater on Friday at 7 p.m. for the annual Shaymus Guinn Cup.

St. Olaf played No. 7 Augsburg to a 2-2 draw this past Saturday to sit at 14-1-3 on the season. Jack Soares leads the team with 10 goals on the year, while Ryan Bechtel has eight goals and a team-high 12 assists.

The Warhawks are tied with UW-Eau Claire on top of the WIAC standings entering the final week. UW-Whitewater is 12-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play behind a conference-best 2.7 scoring average. Cooper Re paces the WIAC with 13 goals scored on the year.

Women's Soccer Concludes Regular Season at Home
Coming off a pair of draws, the Pioneers women's soccer team returns home to close out the regular season. UW-Platteville hosts No. 23 Carleton on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. before wrapping up conference play against UW-Eau Claire on Saturday at the same time.

The Knights had a nine-match winning streak snapped this past weekend in a 2-1 loss at Bethel. Carleton is still 12-2-2 overall on the season behind a strong offense and a defense that is allowing just 0.56 goals per game. Goalkeeper Avery Trapp has allowed just nine goals while posting seven shutouts on the year.

The Blugolds are 3-11-4 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play. UW-Eau Claire has struggled to find much offensive success, scoring a WIAC-low 0.7 goals per game.

Volleyball Travels to No. 4 UW-Eau Claire Wednesday
The Pioneers volleyball team will play three road matches this week, starting at No. 4 UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday at 7 p.m. UW-Platteville then travels to Chicago on Saturday to place North Central College (1:30 p.m.) and Chicago (3 p.m.).

The Blugolds enter the week having won nine straight to improve to 24-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Abby Stanwood (4.24 kills per set) and Bailey Leeke (3.45) lead a strong offensive attack for UW-Eau Claire.

Saturday's opponents have each had strong seasons. North Central (15-6) is coming off a 3-1 win over No. 13 WashU this past weekend and will travel to Millikin on Wednesday night. Chicago (12-10) has won its past two matches, including a 3-1 win over No. 25 Carnegie Mellon.

Men's Basketball Plays Exhibition in Madison
The Pioneers men's basketball team travels to Madison to take on Wisconsin in an exhibition on Wednesday night. Tip-off inside the Kohl Center is slated for 7 p.m.

Wrestling Opens Season at Dubuque Invite
The Pioneers wrestling team will begin the 2025 season this Saturday morning at the University of Dubuque Invite. Competition begins inside the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque at 9 a.m.

Football Hosts No. 25 UW-Oshkosh Saturday
After falling in Whitewater this past weekend, the Pioneers return home to No. 25 UW-Oshkosh on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p.m. inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

The Titans fell 44-13 to No. 12 UW-La Crosse this past week to enter the week 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Quarterback Quentin Keene leads an offense averaging 23.0 points per game, which ranks seventh in the WIAC.

Cross Country Runs at WIAC Championships
The Pioneers cross country teams will return to UW-Oshkosh this Saturday to compete in the 2025 WIAC Championships. The men's team will run first at noon, with the women to follow at 1 p.m. from the XC Ranch at Moore's Field of Dreams in Oshkosh.
