This Week In Pioneer Athletics

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will see many of its athletic teams hit the road this week, with women's soccer, volleyball, football, and cross country competing against strong conference competition. Men's soccer will be at home this week, with games on Wednesday and Saturday.

Women's Soccer to Play Two Road WIAC Games
The Pioneers will hit the road this week for a pair of conference games, with a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday night at UW-La Crosse up first. UW-Platteville the travels to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start time.

The Eagles sit atop the conference standings with a 14-2-0 overall record and 4-0-0 mark in WIAC play. UW-La Crosse features the top four goal scorers in the WIAC, led by Aubree Caya (17), Jillian Sawadski (10), and Sera Speltz (10). In net, Summer Nicolai boasts the conference's top goals against average of .691.

The Pointers are searching for their first conference win this week, and enter with a 0-1-3 record in conference play and 5-4-7 overall. UW-Stevens Point will take on UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday night before hosting the Pioneers on Saturday. Cass Klitzke ranks fifth in the conference with eight goals scored.

Men's Soccer Set for Week at Home
The Pioneers men's soccer team will play a pair of home contests this week, starting with a 7 p.m. match against North Park on Wednesday night. UW-Platteville will then recognize the Senior Class on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game against UW-Stout.

The Vikings improved to 8-5-0 overall after beating Carroll (Wis.) by a score of 2-1 this past weekend. Pacing the team with four goals each are Nico Chavez and Bastian Eikeland.

The Blue Devils are 1-11-3 on the year, including an 0-3-0 record in conference. Roberto Perez, Landen Arnstad, and Logan Bergien lead the team offensively with two goals apiece.

Volleyball Takes on Another Ranked Foe
After upsetting No. 4 UW-Whitewater this past week, the Pioneers get another test this week at No. 3 UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. UW-Platteville then travels to Jacksonville, Illinois for matches against Monmouth (Ill.) and Illinois College on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.

The Titans enter the week at 21-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play while riding an eight-match win streak. Samantha Perlberg paces the WIAC with 4.32 kills per set, while Grace Juergens is sixth with 3.32. At the net, Lauren Grier ranks second in the conference with 1.26 blocks per set.

The Fighting Scots fell to 7-12 on the season after losing in five sets to Lawrence this past weekend. Kaylee Celus is the team leader in kills per set with 3.28.

The Lady Blues have won back-to-back games to enter the week at 8-14 overall. Riley Drake (2.34) and Delani Klaas (2.29) lead the team in kills per set.

Cross Country Runs at UW-Oshkosh Friday
With just a couple weeks until the WIAC Championships, the Pioneers cross country teams will head to the UW-Oshkosh Open on Friday to solidify the final lineups for the conference meet. The men's 8K race will take place at 1:45 p.m. with the women's 6K to follow at 2:30 p.m. from the XC Ranch in Oshkosh.

Football Travels to UW-Whitewater Saturday
Coming off the win over No. 4 UW-La Crosse, The Pioneers football team continues its stretch of ranked WIAC opponents this Saturday against No. 9 UW-Whitewater in the annual George Chryst Memorial Bowl. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

The Warhawks are one of six teams in the WIAC with a 2-1 record in conference play to start the season. UW-Whitewater remained at No. 9 in the most recent D3football.com poll after beating UW-Stout by a score of 34-2 this past Friday. The defense ranks first in the conference in both points allowed (9.8) and yards allowed (218.0), while running back Brian Stanton leads the offense with 524 yards and four scores.
