Pioneers Score Seven In Senior Day Win

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – On Senior Day, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (7-3-5, 1-1-2 WIAC) erupted for a season-high seven goals in a 7-0 win over UW-Stout (1-13-3, 0-4-0 WIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

Senior Ethan Dietrich got the scoring outburst started in the 22nd minute with his fifth goal of the season. Dietrich flicked a corner kick pass from junior Brady Harwood with his left foot to beat the keeper.

The Pioneers scored one more in the first half, as senior Sebastian Carranza netted his sixth of the year in the 27th minute. Junior Justin Williams sent the ball into the box and after it deflected off the Blue Devils keeper, Carranza gathered the ball and fired it into the net.

UW-Platteville added to the lead in the 52nd minute on sophomore Westley Hankes' second goal of the season. Senior Brock Jurinek was credited with the assist to increase the lead to three.

Senior Zac Monnett helped the Pioneers double the lead in a span of ten minutes, scoring twice and assisting on a third. Monnett scored his first goal in the 64th minute following a pass from Williams and then assisted on a score by freshman Antonio Ferreira in the 68th minute. Monnett's second goal was in the 73rd minute after receiving a pass from freshman Caden Wits.

Wits would add to his afternoon with his second goal of the year in the 75th minute after he dribbled past the UW-Stout defense and ripped a shot into the net. His goal concluded the scoring on the day for the Pioneers, who outshot the Blue Devils 29-2 in the match. Eighteen of the 29 shots were on target for UW-Platteville, with a team-high three coming from Carranza, Ferreira, and Monnett.

Senior Seth Aiken recorded the win in goal, as he started the match and played the first 57 minutes. Freshman Connor Waite and sophomore Theodore Utz combined to play the final 43 minutes, with Utz tallying both Pioneers saves.

The Pioneers will play the final two regular season games on the road, starting with a match at No. 4 St. Olaf on Tuesday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
