Pioneers Play Pointers To Scoreless Draw

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (6-2-4, 0-0-2 WIAC) played UW-Stevens Point (9-2-3, 0-1-1 WIAC) to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon from the UW-Stevens Point Turf Facility.

In the first half, the Pioneers held a 6-4 advantage in shots over the Pointers, with UW-Stevens Point coming away with a pair of saves. Freshman Liam Holtzen and junior Luke Hogle had the two attempts on target for UW-Platteville across the first 45 minutes.

The Pioneers turned up the attack in the second half, outshooting the Pointers 9-3, but only one of those shots finished on frame. That try came in the 71st minute on a penalty kick by senior Danny Gutzwiller, but his shot was secured by the UW-Stevens Point keeper.

Senior Seth Aiken came away with two saves in the second half to keep the game scoreless. The shutout is Aiken's sixth on the season and third in the past four games.

Senior Ethan Dietrich led the team with four shots, while senior Sebastian Carranza and Gutzwiller each added a pair of shots.

The Pioneers will welcome in UW-Eau Claire on Friday night at 7 p.m. to continue the conference slate. The Blugolds (7-2-2, 1-0-0 WIAC) are the reigning WIAC Champions.
