PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville volleyball team collected its 13th sweep of the season on Wednesday night at Williams Fieldhouse as it defeated Loras College by scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-19.
The Pioneers (17-3) came out of the gates quickly and pounced on the Duhawks to take a 12-5 lead in set one. Loras called timeout, but the Pioneers cruised to a 25-12 win behind 4-0 and 3-0 runs at the end. UW-Platteville totaled four blocks as a team and senior Emma Carlson had 10 kills alone, hitting .750 in the first set.
The Duhawks regrouped and jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set, but Carlson added three more kills in a 6-2 run to tie the game 11-11. The teams traded points until an 8-0 run, featuring seven kills by Carlson, junior Kierney McDonald, junior Gracie Gibbens and sophomore Delaney Graves, got the team to set-point where Graves' kill finished the set. UW-Platteville totaled 17 kills in set two.
The final set stayed close and featured 13 ties and seven lead changes until the midway point. Another Carlson kill forced Loras to call timeout at 19-16, advantage Pioneers. UW-Platteville scored the final four straight points, featuring a pair of kills by McDonald and one from freshman Brooklyn Radecke to secure the 3-0 win.
UW-Platteville tallied 48 kills, hitting .324, to the Duhawks 25 across all three sets.
Carlson paced the Pioneers with 19 kills, hitting .427, and added 10 digs and one block. Radecke also finished in double digits with 10 kills and two block assists.
Gibbens finished with a game-high 38 assists while tallying three kills of her own.
The Pioneers will return to action and Williams Fieldhouse on Friday, October 11 when they host Cornell College at 7 p.m. during the Homecoming Yell Night.
