Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneers Defeat Falcons 4-0 and Post Eighth Shutout of Season

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team (10-1-2, 2-1 WIAC) shut out UW-River Falls (6-7-0, 2-1 WIAC) 4-0 Friday night at Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium. The shutout is the eighth this season and fourth straight for the Pioneers.

UW-Platteville dominated the conference matchup and outshot the Falcons 23-5, putting eight on frame.

After a frenzy in the box, the Falcons scored an own goal in the 27th minute to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0. Ten minutes later, freshman Westley Hankes doubled the lead with a collegiate career-first goal assisted by sophomore Justin Williams

After halftime, junior Ethan Dietrich fired a direct kick in the 55th minute to the right side and it found the net after ricocheting off of the right post. Nearly 10 minutes later, freshman Aiden Hatleberg scored a high goal off a cross from junior Isaac Petersen, extending the lead to 4-0.

In goal, junior Seth Aiken tallied two saves in his 5th shutout of the season.

The Pioneers also recognized a landmark for the program during the game. The team celebrated its 60th anniversary on Friday night, as the men's soccer program was established at UW-Platteville in 1964.

The Pioneers will return to action on Tuesday, October 22 when they travel to Wartburg College for a 7:30 p.m. game.
