EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Platteville men's soccer team dropped its Saturday night contest 2-0 to UW-Eau Claire at Simpson Field.
The Pioneers drop to 0-2 overall while UW-Eau Claire improves to 2-0.
The heated battle remained locked 0-0 for most of the first half. The Pioneers tallied five shots to the Blugolds' two in the first 27 minutes of the match, but the home team pulled ahead 1-0 in the 33rd minute when Owen Williams scored off passes from Carter Thiesfeld and Cooper Robert.
UW-Eau Claire doubled their lead in the 63rd minute and the Pioneers were unable to cut into the Blugolds lead.
Overall, UW-Eau Claire held the advantage in shots 11-9, but the Pioneers registered five on goal to the Blugolds' four.
Spencer Banks kept the clean slate with five saves while sophomore Chase Werner (0-2) stopped two of four shots faced.
Five Pioneers tallied shots in the game with Junior Jack Gentilli leading with four and sophomore Lucas Schoeneberg recording a team high two on target.
The Blugolds had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks and tallied the most fouls 13-11 in the contest.
The Pioneers will take a break and return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Carroll University for a 7:30 p.m. kick.
